Intermittent chaos in a model of financial markets with heterogeneous agents

چکیده
In this paper we study the price dynamics in a simple model of financial markets with heterogeneous agents. We concentrate on how increases in the total number of active traders influences fluctuations of asset prices. We find that a curious route to chaos is observed when the total number of [active traders] increases. Particularly, we show that intermittent chaos [1] of price fluctuations is observed as the total number of trader increases.

Modeling price fluctuations in financial markets is very important. We try to model price fluctuations in Tehran stock exchange using heterogeneous agents’ model. We used agent-based computational approach. In this model, there are two kinds of agents, some agents have extrapolating expectations (chartists) and others have stabilizing or mean-reverting expectations (fundamentalists)...

The aim of this paper is to propose a heterogeneous agent model of stock markets that develop complicated endogenous price fluctuations. We find occurrences of non-stationary chaos, or speculative bubble, are caused by the heterogeneity of traders’ strategies. Furthermore, we show that the distributions of returns generated from the heterogeneous agent model have fat tails, a remarkable stylize...
متن کاملImitation and contrarian behaviour: hyperbolic bubbles, crashes and chaos
Imitative and contrarian behaviours are the two typical opposite attitudes of investors in stock markets. We introduce a simple model to investigate their interplay in a stock market where agents can take only two states, bullish or bearish. Each bullish (bearish) agent polls m ‘friends’ and changes her opinion to bearish (bullish) if (i) at least mρhb (mρbh) among the m agents inspected are be...

متن کاملChaotic Test and Non-Linearity of Abnormal Stock Returns: Selecting an Optimal Chaos Model in Explaining Abnormal Stock Returns around the Release Date of Annual Financial Statements
For many investors, it is important to predict the future trend of abnormal stock returns. Thus, in this research, the abnormal stock returns of the listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange were tested since 2008- 2017 using three hypotheses. The first and second hypotheses examined the non-linearity and non-randomness of the abnormal stock returns ′ trend around the release date of annual fin...
